Welcome to the Jack Chick Knock-off Wing
Chick Tracts get read! So expect plenty of knock-off tracts to pop up and copy the same format. The following Christian comic tracts are similar in size and cartoon format to JTC comix. If you encounter comic tracts not listed here, please email info or send the actual tract so it can be included (address at bottom of page)
Another Gospel (by Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR) Topic: Jehovah's Witnesses are going to hell. Tract size, all text, no pix. Sports a pretty cool illustration of a hooded devil on the front. (Donated by Samson.)
At Last I'm Free to Live, The True Story of Tom Skinner (by Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR)- Black exploitation story of a black gang member who turns to football (and Christ) to get his life together. (Donated by Samson)
Bikers Weekend (by Chaplain Dann, La Verne CA) Crude artwork (dated 1983) from the same Dann featured in Chick tracts (THE LETTER, REVEREND WONDERFUL). In fact, whenever he appears in his own tract, Dann pastes in an his image from Chick's tract-- which only underscores how primitive his artwork is in comparison to Chick's. See also LONG WAY TO THE SON, THIS WAS YOUR LIFE, COWBOY'S LAST ROUND-UP, FROM CARL TO CARLA TO CHRIST, RAIL-ROADED, REVENGE SEEKERS, GOLDEN YEARS, and PARTY TIME.
Ruckman's Apocalypse This is not a tract at all, but a hard cover coffee table book published by Bible Believers Press, Pensacola Fl. What makes it Chick-like are the paintings by Peter Buckman, who is also an old time artist and preacher. He sells Chick tracts through his Bible Baptist Bookstore, along with his own tracts. When he preaches, he draws pictures for the audience. In this book, the "end times" are quoted on one side of the book, while beautifully painted in full color on the other page. By "beautiful", I mean in all it's bloody glory. It's a treasure trove of Hell fire & demons & even UFOs!
Could This Be You? (Life Messengers) Page one says it all. "This is the account of the remarkable and alarming vision, received by General Wilson Booth, founder of the Salvation Army." 32 pages, good line art illustrations except the last 8 pages of text. No date provided.
Cowboy's Last Round-up (by Chaplain Dann, La Verne CA) Crude artwork (dated 1981) from the same Dann featured in Chick tracts (THE LETTER, REVEREND WONDERFUL). Tells the story of how a friend road Dann's horse, falls, and eventually gets saved.
End of the World, The (unknown origin) A professionally done 20 page tract with excellent art which stops abruptly in the middle and launches into 9 pages of preaching. Another odd aspect of this tract (besides its mysterious author) is that it features a panel stolen from Chick's THIS WAS YOUR LIFE (the scene of the funeral). Other than the heavy text ending and the ripped off Chick panel, this is one of the best imitation tracts yet.
Facts of Life, The (by Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR) Mostly text, but first third is a comic of a baby fetus dreaming of being born, when it instead gets aborted. The rest of the tract contains a few sketches and very graphic photos of dead babies. The ERA probably loves this one. (Donated by Samson.)
Finished Wonder, The (by Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR) Topic: Catholics are fooled to believe they are Christians. Tract size, all text, no pix. (Donated by Samson.)
Freedom Rider (by Christian Biker's Association, Ontario Canada)- Kind of one dimensional line art, but otherwise very similar to Chick format. Tells the story of a Motorcycle gang member who goes broke and returns home to become a Christian (like the rest of his family). (Donated by JP Arial)
From Carl to Carla to Christ (by Chaplain Dann, La Verne CA) Crude artwork (dated 1983) from a gay artist named Carl whom Dann saved. (The same Dann featured in Chick tracts like REVEREND WONDERFUL). Whenever Dann appears in the tract, the artist pastes in Dann's image from Chick's tract. The way homosexuals are presented may seem stereotyped and outrageous, but the story is autobiographical. The artist was busted for gay prostitution, then saved in prison by Dann. He drew the tract for Dann in appreciation for Dann's spiritual guidance.
God Is! (Life Messengers' series, printed by World Home Bible League, S. Holland, IL) Topic: God is great. Tract size, all text, no pix. (Donated by Samson.)
Golden Years (By Chaplain Dann, La Verne, Ca.) Crude artwork dated 1986 "by Dann and Rob." Bill is a prison guard who retires and plans the good life. A co-worker stores some stolen coins in Bill's safe. The co-worker dies and robbers break into the safe. The cops catch the intruders and spot the hot coins. Bill is arrested and is sent to the same jail where he worked. He finds some of Chaplain Dann's tracts and becomes saved. Dann prays for him to be exonerated and Bill is soon released.
Good News by Campus Crusade For Christ, copyright 1970. It is the same size, shape, number of pages, format as chick tracts. It is completely in color and written for children. The general story is the good news of God (how to get to Heaven).
Have You Been Brainwashed? (Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR) Dr. Gish gives a lecture a college explaining how Evolution can't be true. Originally 1986, revised 1994. (Donated by Samson)
Here's Happiness (by Life Messengers, Seattle WA) A cartoon tract about two men on a plane talking about the afterlife. This tract is available with a white or Negro cast. 32 pages of good line art, except for the last 2 1/2 pages of tiny text.
Hooked For Good, The True Story of Sammy Hall (by Life Messengers, Seattle WA) Comic strip style story with decent art showing Sammy go from nobody to rock superstar to rock bottom... then saved by Jesus.
I Discovered the Real Person and Power Behind Witchcraft (Life Messengers, ©1986 World Home Bible League) "This is the true story about Ben Alexander, who was a spiritualist medium for several years. He is an authority on the occult and witchcraft." 32 pages with good line art, except the last 3 1/2 pages of text.
It's Much Later Than We Think (Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR) George refuses to believe in heaven in hell. His son dies and goes to heaven, but when George dies, he winds up in a rather warmer climate... (Donated by Samson)
Left Behind (Christian Media, Jacksonville OR) A tract that contradicts Chick's view of the rapture, but goes to great lengths to look like a Chick tract.
Lonely Cabin on the 40-Mile (Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR) Well illustrated comic strip tale of three tough guys who get snowed into a cabin during the 1800s, and how the only thing they have to read is a Bible. Can you guess what happens? (Donated by Samson)
Long Way To The Son (by Chaplain Dann, La Verne CA) This was apparently drawn by Dann (dated 1983). The artwork is crude but the fact that it's the same Dann featured in Chick tracts (THE LETTER, REVEREND WONDERFUL) makes it of special interest to Chick fans. In fact, whenever he appears in his own tract, Dann just pastes in an his image from Chick's tract-- which only underscores how primitive his artwork is in comparison to Chick's. See also BIKERS WEEKEND and THIS WAS YOUR LIFE.
Lost and Found (Gospel Tract Distributors, Portland OR)- Crude style comic characters explain the importance of Jesus to kids. (Donated by Samson)
My Search (by Life Messengers, Seattle WA)- Text heavy tract with charcoal illustrations strewn throughout. (Donated by JP Arial)
Party Time (By Chaplain Dann, La Verne, Ca.) Tells the story of a clean cut boy who falls in with the wrong crowd and suffers the near fatal consequences. David graduates Christian high school with honors. His father gives him a car. Instead of going to college, he starts to party with porn queens. He doesn't "do it" with them, however, so when the car goes over the cliff, the tart dies but he is spared. He brings other sinners to Christ at the funeral.
Rail Roaded (by Chaplain Dann, La Verne CA) Crude artwork (date unknown) from the same Dann featured in Chick's tract, REVEREND WONDERFUL. Whenever he appears in the tract, Dann pastes in his image from Chick's tract. This is the story of a fellow who is framed and goes to prison, but prayers are answered when Chaplain Dann visits the framed convict and he is soon released.
The Revenge Seekers (By Chaplain Dann, La Verne, Ca.) In this story, Cowboy Dann is a gunslinger who is shot by outlaws. He is rescued by a couple and nursed back to health. When he leaves, the outlaws arrive to rob the couple and burn down their church. Dann returns and sets out to catch and kill the thieves. The bandits find a Bible in the loot and become saved. Dann catches them but they have changed. They all return to the newly rebuilt church and live happily ever after.
Ronny Reb (by Life Messengers, Seattle WA)- Very stylized cartoons, ala Rocky & Bullwinkle. Tells the tale of a hippy who winds up getting taken to hell by the Serpent (devil).
The Stranger (by Community Baptist Church, Abbotsford B.C.) A 40 page tract with low-to-medium quality artwork. Pretty corny plot too: A couple picks up a bible fanatic hitchhiker on their way to a cabin, where he starts his converting efforts. Meanwhile, a "killer grizzly" is warming up his taste buds for some good atheist meat...
Tell It Like It Is, The Real Issue (by Bible Baptist Bookstore, Pensacola FL)- full color paintings by Peter Ruckman face full pages of text explaining various portions of the King James Bible.
This Was Your Life (by Vol. Cowboy Chaplain Dann, La Verne CA) This was apparently drawn by Dann (dated 1985). The very crude art version of the famous Chick tract story, only featuring an Indian cast. It's by the same Dann featured in Chick tracts (THE LETTER, REVEREND WONDERFUL). Whenever he appears in his own tract, Dann pastes in his image from Chick's tract-- which only underscores how primitive his artwork is in comparison to Chick's. See also BIKERS WEEKEND and LONG WAY TO THE SON.
